The 8th Annual Libenu Share the Dream Gala will be held on Wednesday evening, April 25, 2018, at 7 pm at Shallot’s Bistro in Skokie. We are proud to honor Mitch Dayan with the Lev Tzedek Award and Danny Hechtman with the Arthur and Edith Schreiber Lev Tov Award, for their remarkable dedication and support.
Mitch Dayan, is a partner and cofounder of the AMG Realty Group. Prior to his real estate career, Mitch was involved in his family retail business, Dayan’s Department Store. Mitch is an extremely active member of the Chicagoland community and has held multiple leadership roles, including President of Belmont Central Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner of Special Service Area #2 for Chicago, and President and Chairman of the board of Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation. Mitch also served on the committee for ICJA Athletics, coached the wrestling team and received the Crown Leadership Award. Mitch is an integral member of the Libenu board and has been instrumental in maintaining the gold-standard of person-centered care in our homes. Mitch’s passion for helping others drives his commitment and enables Libenu’s men and women to live with dignity and respect, as fully participating members of the Jewish community.
Danny Hecthman is the co-owner of Ken’s Diner, which has served the Chicago Jewish community for 25 years. He is the founder, president, and Gabai of the BAY Synagogue in Buffalo Grove. Danny is also an unsung hero who bravely pulled a driver to safety from a burning truck and saved his life following an accident in 2013. For the past 25 years, Danny has been actively involved in supporting people with disabilities in Chicago by raising money and spreading awareness. He makes a point to personally get to know every child and adult that he meets, leading him to form lifelong friendships. His tireless dedication extends to his volunteer role with Libenu. The Libenu residents are fortunate to be frequent guests at Ken’s Diner, where Danny enthusiastically welcomes them with a big smile and great food. Danny’s warm personality and outgoing nature has created an inviting, inclusive environment for the men and women of Libenu, where they can truly be a part of the Jewish community and the “Ken’s Diner Family”.
Libenu enables people with developmental disabilities to live their best lives, as fully included members of the Jewish community. The organization is the pioneer and premier provider of person-centered, kosher residential opportunities in Chicago. In addition, Libenu offers vocational training, recreation, and social enterprises to foster self-sufficiency and independence. Libenu also provides desperately-needed after school care for younger children with special needs through the Lev Chicago Respite program, offered in conjunction with Jewish Child and Family Services. Libenu was selected by Upstart Accelerator as one of the most innovative Jewish nonprofit organizations in the world. Most importantly. Libenu provides peace-of-mind and reassurance to families that their loved ones’ future is secure.
