Akiba-Schechter Jewish Day School is happy to announce that Rabbi Yaakov Cohen will join their faculty as Director of Judaic Studies this summer. He attended Yeshiva University where he received a BA in Psychology and his rabbinical ordination and also earned a Master’s degree from YU’s Azrieli School of Jewish Education and Administration, where he was a Legacy Heritage Fellow. For five years he served as Judaic Director and teacher at the YULA Girls High School in Los Angeles. Previously he has directed the youth program at Adas Torah Synagogue, Camp Yavneh, and co-directed the ‘Witnesses Of Witnesses’ Holocaust program. This past year, in Chicago, Rabbi Cohen served as educational director of NCSY and collaborated with other local Jewish organizations, including the Jewish Federation and USY. These roles have given him a well-rounded perspective on working with children from early childhood through high school and from a variety of backgrounds, which will serve him well in working with Akiba-Schechter’s diverse community.
