Chai Lifeline Midwest Mom’s Retreat 2018 By: Rivka Recht, MMHC, Case Manager, Chai Lifeline MW When describing a family that has a Chai Lifeline diagnosis, there are many thoughts and ways that come to mind as how to help the entire family. As always though, the one that it is hardest to care for, is the one that cares for everyone else; the mom. Chai Lifeline understands that if we tell the mothers that they need to take care of themselves they will nod, agree and then proceed to take care of everyone else first. That is why, Chai Lifeline doesn’t spend too much time talking about it, instead, Chai Lifeline makes it happen! The program included many ways for the mothers to relax, connect to one another and have a wonderful time. Moms were treated to relaxing massages, professional hair and makeup. They each decorated and took home a new snood/beanie and were treated to elegant meals along the way. In addition, they had inspiring workshops and rejuvenating Tai Kwan Do, to complete a very well-rounded program. Chai Lifeline’s goal is to give the mothers a relaxing and enjoyable retreat so that they can return to their families with renewed strength. However, instead of saying mission accomplished, I am adding direct quotes from the mothers about the retreat, and I will let those quotes speak for themselves. There really are no words to say thank you and express our/my gratitude for the planning, thought and delivery of this amazing retreat. Thank you for providing a beautiful space to take care of ourselves while also providing a forum to reflect, and relate, be a shoulder and have a shoulder. Each activity and idea was so well planned and thought out. Thank you for the positive outcomes that this retreat has provided. Thank you for a fantastic and highly professional program it really makes us feel cared about.
