Chai Lifeline Midwest ran a “Cultural Sensitivity Training” for the staff at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Many people are familiar with the game show “Family Feud,” but how many of you would win at a lightning round of “Family Jewed?!” In order to keep the information light, enjoyable and easy to understand, Rabbi Shlomo Crandall, Regional Director and Rivka Recht, Case Manager of Chai Lifeline Midwest, presented the information by running rounds of “Family Jewed,” for the staff at the hospital. The topics covered ranged from “Common Jewish Misconceptions” – Do we have to wear all black?!” – and “What might be some of the hardest things about trying to observe Sabbath in the hospital for a religious Jew” – The food? The truth is that a lot of the sensitivity awareness boiled down to many different issues regarding food and we are considering changing the name to “Family Food!” It was an informative and fun learning session topped with doughnuts and coffee, (Did we mention that we are all about the food?!) Chai Lifeline Midwest thanks Lurie Children’s hospital for once again partnering with us to be able to offer our families the best service, in an educated and caring way.
