Glenbrook Mikvah Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

A seven-year journey has come to an end for the Glenview-Northbrook Jewish Community. This past Sunday The Solomon and Dora Einhorn Glenbrook Mikvah, located in the heart of Chicago’s northern suburbs, marked the completion of its building project with a Chanukas Habayis celebration. Featuring world-renowned speaker Yaffa Palti, members of the community and neighboring suburbs were invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication of the mikvah building and facilities. The mikvah, a brainchild of Northbrook resident Joshua Nankin, became a possibility through the dedication and stamina of Nankin, his wife, and his community. Nankin received support from members of the community and outsiders. He also received financial and halachic guidance from Rabbi Yitzchok Bistritzky, the head and founder of Mikvah USA, a non-profit organization that helps fund new and existing mikvaos around the country. The mikvah was generously dedicated by the Solomon and Dora Einhorn Foundation, chaired by Mr. Louis Kolom. The mikvah building was named in the memory of Mrs. Ellen Rosenblatt Avner, Nankin’s late mother-in-law. Rabbi Bistritzky, as well as other esteemed donors from the New York area, was in attendance Sunday afternoon as the community and donors were invited to a walk-through tour of the new building. The facilities, designed by Joey Leicht, include two state-of-the-art preparation rooms, complete with radiant heated floors, deluxe steamshower with aromatherapy, Italian soaking tub, and other spa-like amenities to enhance women’s taharat hasmishpacha experiences. The mikvah is built according to all Halachic standards so that it will invite and be utilized by all members of the community, regardless of their affiliation or denomination. In addition to the women’s mikvah, the building also houses a keilim mikvah, which is open to the public and allows members of the Northshore to easily tovel their dishes without needing to travel upwards of 20 minutes by car. The mikvah operates through a volunteer system, comprised of women in the community under the leadership of Faith Bugay. The mikvah has been operational since May of 2017 and is open by appointment only.
