In Mr. Verdaguer’s Introduction to Law and Political Science class, students are doing a project on advocacy and lobbying. Advocacy is the active support of a cause, and lobbying is the art of actively persuading others to support that same cause. In this project, students will be asked to identify a political or social cause they care about, and then try to convince their peers to support their cause using a prepared speech. Students will also be asked to answer questions about their specific cause, such as why it is important to them, and what is going on with that cause in the news currently.  Topics include the 2nd Amendment, abortion, anti-animal testing, and many other civil and human rights issues. Students will get to learn about important current events in politics and law, while practicing their speech writing and public speaking techniques at the same time.
