The Aces girls varsity basketball team finished up an impressive showing at this year’s Miami tournament in early March with a single digit win in the championship game against Shalhevet. Their hard work and dedication all season paid off as they raised the championship trophy in front of their parents and fans. Every single girl played their best basketball of the season during the tournament, and it was the best the team looked all season.

In one weekend, the Aces played YULA, Flatbush, Rochelle Zell, Central, and Shalhevet. In most of the games, the Aces got a solid lead by the end. In the championship game against Shalhevet, the score was close throughout the whole game. Ruby Grant says, “Our defense was crucial and effective in each game, and the team’s ball movement was swift and cohesive. Ultimately our energy and determination won us the tournament. In Miami, I saw the team come together in a way we never had before. Our hearts were so in it that we put our all into each game and strived to work together and support each other no matter what. We were not only talented, but we had good sportsmanship and were the loudest from the bench in cheering for one another. Together with our coaches and chaperones, the Aces were unstoppable.”

Congrats to Lior Pinchot on winning tournament MVP. Lior says, “The Miami tournament was a huge success for our team both on and off the court. Our Lady Aces varsity team became a family. Whether it was cheering and celebrating together after a big win or singing zemiros Friday night at the Shabbos table, we strengthened our friendships with one another. Our victories were a direct result of our outstanding team chemistry. This season was focused on our ‘pack-line defense.’ In order for it to work, each girl needed to be ready to get in the paint and help defend at any given second. That is what our team was about this season; always being there to support each other win or lose.”
