Quad Day in Champaign kicks off the new school year

What a fun day the JET staff and volunteers had at Quad Day this year. Sporting JET T-shirts and handing out JET swag, they met dozens of Jewish students and told them about JET and all the exciting programs coming up.

With school in full swing and Rosh Hashanah around the corner, the JET Home was buzzing with activity. Whether it was a pre-Rosh Hashanah Dip the Apple (in Caramel, Nutella or Chocolate) event, the kick-off class of the new Maimonides program, the first Positive Speech Project class or Shabbat meals, the JET House was filled with smiling, happy JET students having fun and learning about their Jewish heritage. Thanks go to the incredible JET staff and student volunteers for all their hard work.

Maimonides program is in full swing

“The 5 Levels of Pleasure,” “The Jewish Holidays through the Lens of a Relationship,” and “Why Pray?” were the subjects of the third week’s classes at the Maimonides Leaders Fellowship at the JET Home. Delicious dinner was also served. Maimonides is JET’s flagship program with hundreds of graduates over the year. The highlight of the program is a shabbaton in Chicago. This semester’s shabbaton coincides with the worldwide Shabbat Project Shabbaton.

Challah Baking at the JET Home

Early in the semester, Rivki Cherrick and Adina Mayer drove down to Champaign to join Tehiya Rubin and a house full of girls (and a few guys) at the first Challah bake of the school year. Mrs. Mayer told Rabbi Kahn: “It was amazing. It was so special to see so many people there and excited about challah! We literally had the 4 tables together full with every seat in the house taken!”

Chillin’ in Champaign

The JET Home is in a perfect location in Champaign, right in the heart of campus, close walking distance for so many Jewish students. One of the goals of JET is to provide a safe space for students to feel comfortable enough to drop by and shmooze with us and with other students.

UCLA Rabbi spends Day in Champaign

Rabbi Naftali Hanfling, Rabbi at UCLA for JAM, one of the most successful outreach organizations in the country, took time out of his busy schedule to spend a full day with Rabbi Mordi in Champaign, visiting the JET Home, sharing programming ideas and joining him on the Quad to meet Jewish students.
