Northbrook-based Keshet recently held its annual Rainbow Banquet, which raised more than $1.1 million. Keshet is the premiere provider of educational, recreational, vocational, social and residential programs for people with disabilities. From its core programs for individuals with disabilities in the Chicago area to its international consulting work, Keshet serves over 1,000 individuals with disabilities and touches the lives of thousands of family members, peers, supporters, and other stakeholders around the globe.

More than 1,250 people attended the Sunday, March 10th, event. During the evening Northfield residents Sy and Nancy Taxman were honored for their generosity and commitment of $1,000,000 to enhance Keshet’s MY Life Residential program. Also, Keshet parent Carol Marin of NBC5 News and WTTW “Chicago Tonight” presented her unique insights about parenting. And for the company’s significant support in hiring people with disabilities, Jewel-Osco received Keshet’s 2019 Employer of the Year Award.

“It’s more important than ever that children and adults with developmental disabilities are given every opportunity to achieve their potential. This event is a wonderful way to highlight their achievements and demonstrate Keshet’s continued support well into the future,” said Abbie Weisberg, Executive Director/ CEO. “Once again our annual event was filled with many, many special people and moments.”

Carol Marin, political editor at WMAQ-TV, a contributor for WTTW-TV’s Chicago tonight, and blogger for nbcchicago.com spoke about a parent’s struggle and triumphs in raising a child with disabilities. “Carol’s compassionate and tremendously articulate insights resonated with everyone and underscored the importance of Keshet’s mission to not only provide opportunities for our special needs participants for their families as well.”
