Are you looking to learn and retain halachos that you encounter on a daily basis? Do you want to engage your children with interesting contemporary questions and answers? Are you curious to know the reasons behind the mitzvos so you can better impart the beauty of Judaism to your family? Do you want to celebrate your accomplishment by receiving “Semichat Chaver” from three of the leading Torah illuminators of our generation?

The YU Torah Mitzion Kollel has just the right learning opportunity for you. The Semichat Chaver Program is an innovative weekly chabura designed to help young professionals gain a deep understanding of the halachos that impact our daily lives. Developed by Rav Elyada Goldwicht in conjunction with the OU, the program has already transformed hundreds of learners in Israel and America and is now coming to Chicago for the first time. It will be given by the Kollel’s Rosh Chabura, Rabbi Aaron Kraft, at Bais Chaim Dovid in Lincolnwood and will meet every Wednesday night, following 8:30 pm Ma’ariv.

Each semester will focus on a different area of halacha, bringing practical halachic concepts to life through multimedia presentations, videos, and exciting debate. Source packets will be provided to ensure that everyone involved gains a better appreciation for the mesorah and of how halacha developed from the Chumash to the Mishna and Gemara to modern day poskim. But, each participant should also have his own volume of the Shulchan Aruch to enable further engagement in the limud. Because one of our goals is to show the beauty of Judaism and halacha, we will begin each class with a short exploration of the ta’amei hamitzvos behind the halacha.

By the end of each semester, participants will possess basic knowledge of everyday halacha and can show what has been gained by completing a written exam. Upon passing the exam, you will receive Semichat Chaver (certificate of accomplishment) signed by Chief Rabbi, HaRav Shlomo Amar, former Av Bais Din of the Beis Din Hagadol in Yerushalayim, Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg, and Rosh Yeshiva and Rosh Kollel of Yeshiva University, HaRav Hershel Schachter.

All of this will arm you with thought-provoking Torah to share with your family at the Shabbat table. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to join hundreds of learners around the world and bring your Judaism to the next level! The semester will begin on May 15th and finish before Rosh Hashana.
