A very special and unique Chanukah Menorah was lit on Wednesday, December 25th, 2019, in honor of the fourth night of Chanukah. Hundreds of students, their families, and community members gathered in the auditorium of the Seymour J. Abrams Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew Day School in Skokie, IL for the lighting of the World’s Largest “Salute our Troops” Menorah.

This Menorah is constructed out of hundreds of Shabbos care packages which will be sent to Jewish members of the U.S. Military. These food packages were assembled by the fourth-grade class at the school which raised $1000’s of dollars from family, friends, and neighbors for this special project. The “Salute our Troops” menorah demonstrates our deep appreciation and gratitude to the men and women of the US armed forces.

This menorah project is dedicated in loving memory of Marine Pfc. Menachem Mendel Goldbloom of blessed memory, who was so proud to serve his country and was tragically taken from us just a couple of months ago. Marine Pfc. Menachem Mendel Goldbloom was a former student at Cheder Lubavitch, and the fourth-grade class and their teacher, Rabbi Avraham Varnai, wanted to do something special and meaningful this Chanukah in his memory. Menachem Mendel’s favorite Jewish holiday was Chanukah and he was a proud Jew in the military. May his memory be a blessing and may his family be comforted.
