Yachad continues to provide the community with inclusive events over the past number of weeks, in its Juniors (7-14 y/o), Seniors (15-24 y/o), Rayim (25 y/o +) and GO b’Yachad (girls & women’s) divisions. On Motzaei Shabbos, January 5th, GO b’Yachad had a fun karaoke and dinner event. Happy and enthusiastic singing was enjoyed by all of girls and women who attended, while they cheered and encouraged each other to participate. The smiles were too numerous to count! Over 30 women and girls participated, and a delicious pizza and salad dinner was enjoyed by everyone.
On Sunday, January 6th, our Seniors and Rayim participated in a “Minute to Win It” event. Over 40 members, peers and advisors took part in lighthearted challenges where each participant had to complete their personal challenges / feats in under one minute! Examples include: a participant would have to stack and unstack a pyramid of cups 5 times, without the cups falling in under one minute or your team loses and the frosting challenge, where one must throw and get as many ping pong balls stuck onto a plate covered in frosting as possible, in under one minute! Needless to say, it was an all-around exciting and colorful experience!
Our Juniors event this past Sunday, January 13th, was one to remember. Magician Steve Belliveau was an amazing combination of comedian, magician, animal trainer and wonderful entertainer! All our peers, members and high school advisors were laughing throughout the whole show! Steve brought a dove and two bunnies with him as part of his act and the children were able to pet and play with the bunnies after the show. He did a great job of engaging with our members and peers and have as many people participate in the act as possible. We are so happy to have met Steve and had him come perform for Yachad Juniors! An amazing time was had by all!
Yachad endeavors to include individuals from all ability levels, along with their typically developing peers, in a fun, non-judgmental environment, through its numerous monthly activities, shabbatonim, summer and Birthright programs, and its biennial Hartman Family Foundation Midwest Shabbaton (coming March 2019).
